Chinese New Year Party!

Hello! We had a Chinese New Year Party today. There were so many Chinese people who are living in Macon, and we enjoyed Chinese food. It started at 5:30 and lasted until around 9:00.
こんにちは。今日の夕方、旧正月のパーティーが大学の食堂で開かれました。同じ市内に住んでいる中国人の方たちがたくさん集まっていて、とても賑やかなディナーでした。中国料理がたくさん振る舞われ、とても美味しかったです。5:30から始まり、9:00近くまで行なわれました。

　　　　　

To cerebrate New Year, I wore kinomo. Some of my Chinese friends wore Chinese dress, so it was so great time!
新年のお祝いに着物を着ました。今年は初詣に行けなかったので、代わりと言ってはなんですがとても楽しむことができました。中国人の友だちも伝統的な服を着ていたので一緒に写真を撮りました！

     

There were some performances too, and some of my friends danced and played the instrument.
パフォーマンスもあり、私の友人もダンスをしたり楽器を弾いたりしていました。

After the party,  I helped my friends to wear yukata. I was so happy that they loved to try it! They looks really good on it <3 It was a great time!!
パーティの後、私は中国人の友だちに着物を着せてあげました。みんなとても喜んでくれてとても嬉しかったです。

I could have a great evening today. 

Tomorrow evening, I will leave here for horse show! Have a nice weekend!

今日は本当に素晴らしい夕方を過ごすことができました。

明日の夕方は日曜日の乗馬の試合のために大学を出発します! みなさん良い週末をお過ごしください!!

Happy New Year!! 新年好!!

Happy New Year!! Today is a new year day in Chinese traditional calendar.
新年明けましておめでとうございます!!なぜ今日こんなことを言うかというと、今日は旧正月だからです。

My sweet mate is from Vietnam, and she said "Happy New Year! :)" in this morning. I was surprised since we don't cerebrate it in Japan, but only on January 1st. She thought that Japanese also cerebrate today as a New Year Day because same Asian country. She asked me why we do not cerebrate it. But I did not know why, so I researched about it. From my research, until the end of Edo period, we had cerebrated it as a New Year. During the Edo period, Japan closed its doors to foreign countries. After the period ended, the doors were opened(1868). Then, Japanese government tried to take many customs and cultures from European countries, and educated those things to people. At the same time, Japanese stopped to use the Chinese calendar and quitted cerebrating the Chinese New Year's Day.
私のスイートメイトはベトナム人の女の子なのですが、彼女に今朝、「明けましておめでとう！」と言われて今日が旧正月なのだと気がつきました。日本では全くと言っていい程祝わないので驚きました。同じアジアの国だから日本も祝うのだろうと彼女は思ったようです。「なぜ日本では祝わないのか」と聞かれたのですが、知識がなかったため調べてみました。私が調べた情報によると、私たち日本人も明治維新(1968)までは旧正月を祝っていたようです。江戸時代が終わり、鎖国制度を撤廃した後、明治政府は欧米の習慣や文化をできる限り取り入れ、国民に教育しました。それと同時に中国のカレンダーを使うのを止め、旧正月も祝わなくなってしまったようです。

Even though I do not celebrate it in Japan, my Chinese friends invited to me to the Chinese New Year Dinner!! I ate many delicious Chinese foods, and I loved it so much!!
日本では、全くお祝いしないのですが、同じ大学に留学している中国人の友だちが夕食に誘ってくれました!! とても美味しい中国料理をたくさんいただきました!!

友だちが中国ではお正月にお鍋をみんなで食べるんだと教えてくれました。

I feel so many differences from Japan since I came to America. I want to learn about more new cultures and customs, and I may be assimilated to American. However, moreover, I want to know more about my country when I find some differences. Although we are sharing similar cultures with other Asian countries, the are some differences, like New Year. I can learn about my own country through learning new culture. I do appreciate to have this great opportunity to know about new culture and my own culture and history.
 アメリカに来てから日本とは違う文化に本当にたくさん触れています。その度にもっと新しい文化や習慣を知りたいと思っているので、多くの影響を受けているでしょう。しかしそれ以上に、違いを見つける度に自分の国についてもっと知りたいと思います。同じアジアの国として多くの文化を共有していますが、この正月のように違いもあるのです。新しいものを学ぶことを通して自分の国について学ぶことができています。新しい文化と自国の文化両方を学ぶことができる環境に本当に感謝です。

Tomorrow, we will have a Chinese dinner party fro new year again at the dining hall! I am so excited!! :D

明日は食堂でまた新年のパーティーがあるのでとても楽しみです!!

By the way, we had a lots of snow yesterday! We played in snow and it was so fun!!

Western Show

I went to South Carolina for a western horse show last weekend. It was a two days show, and three students from Wesleyan College participated. I just started western this semester, and I have ridden only once. So, I could not show, but I could enjoy to see it and had a great weekend!

先週末にサウスカロライナ州でウェスタンの試合に行ってきました。土日の２日間に渡って行なわれ、ウェスリアン大学からは３人の学生が出場しました。私はウェスタンを今学期に始めたばかりでまだ1回しか乗っていないので、試合に出場することはできませんでしたが、とても楽しむことができ、良い週末を過ごすことができました。

Saturday was extremely cold, and we were almost frozen. Since the western's show costume is a colorful/sparkle shirt and  chaps but no jacket, the riders needed to bear the cold weather.

土曜日は本当に寒かったです。ウェスタンの試合の服はカラフルでキラキラしたシャツとチャップスという皮のズボンのようなものを履きます。ジャケットはないので、試合に出場する学生は皆、寒さに耐えなければならず本当に辛そうでした。

The Western saddle is really different from English one. So I want to be used to it as soon as possible, and I will practice to participate the show in this semester!!

ウェスタンの鞍は私が今まで乗ってきたイングリッシュの鞍ととても違います。できる限り早く慣れて試合に出場できるように、練習を頑張ります！

Snow storm is coming, and school is closed today and tomorrow. We haven't seen snow yet, but maybe tomorrow?? Happy Snow day!!
こちらでは雪が降るようで、今日明日、大学の授業は全てキャンセルになりました。まだ雪は全く見ていないのですが、、明日は降るのでしょうか？

Tutoring Japanese

Hello! Today, I will introduce the tutoring system in Wesleyan College since I became a tutor for Japanese class.
こんにちは。今日は、Wesleyan Collegeでのチューターシステムというものについて紹介したいと思います。私は今セメスターの日本語クラスのチューターになりました。

For each classes, there are student tutors, and we can ask some questions or get some advices for the class. Tutors can get some salaries, and students can get the service with free.
各教科に学生チューターという学生がいます。彼女たちは以前にその科目を履修していたりと経験があるので、私たちは授業の質問をしたりアドバイスを受けることができます。学生は無料でこのサービスを受けることができ、チューターになると教えた時間分の給料が大学から支払われます。

I was asked to be a Japanese class's tutor since I am Japanese. However I cannot get any salary because I am an exchange student. I thought it can be a good experience for me, so I took on this work.
私は日本人なので、今学期の日本語クラスのチューターをしてもらえないかと頼まれました。残念ながら、私は交換留学生なので給料は支払われず、完全ボランティア制となるのですが、良い経験になるだろうと思い、引き受けました。

Yesterday,  I was asked to do a tutoring by a student, and I thought some Japanese. She has an exam on Monday, so requested me to practice some speaking in Japanese. I can learn which point of Japanese is difficult to learn thorough teaching it.
昨日、日本語クラスを履修している学生にチューターをしてほしいというメールをもらい日本語を教えてきました。彼女は月曜日に試験があるので会話の練習をしたいということでした。教えるということを通して、日本語を勉強する時にどこが難しいのかということを学ぶことができます。

I hope I can help them as much as I can while I am here, and I want them to like Japan through leaning Japanese :)
滞在期間中にできる限り彼女たちをサポートできたら良いなと考えています。そして日本語を学ぶことを通して日本が好きになってくれたらとても嬉しいです！:)

First Riding in 2014!!

Hello! I had a lesson of equestrian today.
Since we had so much rain, some lesson was canceled, and today was the first riding in 2014!!
こんにちは。今日は乗馬のレッスンがありました。
私は、この大学の馬術部に所属しています。
最近、雨がたくさん降ったので、何回かレッスンがキャンセルされてしまい、今日が2014年の初乗りでした!!

Also, today was a first lesson of Western!!
I did only hunt seat last semester, but I also join the western team this semester!! I have no experience of western, but I am really excited for the new style riding for me and the shows!!
また、今日はウェスタンのレッスンに初挑戦の日でもありました!!
前学期はハントシートのチームのみに所属していたのですが、今学期はウエスタンのチームにも所属することにしました。今までウエスタンスタイルの経験は全くないので新しい馬術に触れることができそうでとても楽しみです!!

I rode Poco today. He is a pony and really cute!! :)

Started the Spring Semester!

The Spring Semester classes began on Wednesday. This semester, I am taking four classes and joining both hunt seat and wester team for equestrian.
Before talking about this semester, I want to introduce about the reason why I could come to this college and about the last fall semester :)
水曜日からいよいよ春学期の授業がスタートしました。今学期、私は４つのクラスを履修しており、馬術部ではハントシートをウェスタンの両方のチームに所属しています。
今学期について書いていく前に、この学校に来れたきっかけと前秋学期について少し紹介したいと思います :)

I came to this college with 7 other GSE major students of Hiroshima Jogakuin University in Japan, and we are the first student for this college from our university. This opportunity of study abroad happened because of the Peace and Leadership Summer Seminar in 2012. Some Wesleyan College students came to my university for this seminar.
Wesleyan Collegeに広島女学院大学からの初の学生たちとして、７人の他の学生と一緒にきました。 今回の留学の機会は2012年に行なわれたピース＆リーダーシップサマーセミナーをきっかけに実現されました。Wesleyan Collegeから何人かの学生が参加しておりこの繋がりから始まったのです。

In the seminar, I could have many friends from foreign countries such as America, Vietnam, Philippines. And also, I visited India as a field work. I could have one of the greatest experience in my life through this seminar.
このセミナーを通して、アメリカ、ベトナム、フィリピンなどからの友だちができ、またフィールドワークでインドにも行きました。このセミナーは私の人生において最高の経験のひとつです。

As I said before, thanks to this seminar, 8 students could came to Wesleyan College for study abroad in fall semester. In Japan, generally speaking, people tend to think that "study abroad" means "study English to communicate." However, our study abroad was different from it, and we came here to learn some certain subject in English. I put the link of our blog in last semester :)
このセミナーを終え、Wesleyan Collegeへの半年間留学の話をいただき、昨年の秋学期には８人の学生を受け入れてもらうことができました。日本では、よく「留学に行く」というと「英語を勉強しに行く」と捉えられがちです。しかし、私たちの留学の目的はそれとは違い、何かの科目を英語で学びに行くという目的できました。秋学期にみんなで更新していた留学ブログのリンクを貼らせていただきます。

It is my second experience of study abroad. However, last time was in high school, so the aim is really different. The last semester was really good one with my friends from same major. In this spring semester, only I am staying in this college. I am making this semester one of the best experience in my entire life!!
私にとって今回の留学は２回目の経験なのですが、前回は高校での留学だったので目的が全く違い、新しい経験をさせてもらいました。秋学期は同じ専攻の友人たちと一緒に留学、今学期は私のみ残っています。今回の留学を私の人生において最高の経験にできるよう頑張ります!!

I came back to Wesleyan College!

Yesterday, I came back to Georgia from New York.
After New Year, we had a heavy snow!! I built a snowman!! :)
Bad thing was I could not go to the tour in the United Nations, since it closed because of snow. But I am sure that I have a next time!!

昨日、ニューヨークからジョージアに帰ってきました。
新年を迎えてから、ニューヨークでは大雪の日がありました。この雪の影響で国連は閉まってしまい、予約していたガイドツアーに参加することができませんでした。ニューヨークでとても行きたかった場所の一つだったのでとても残念でしたがまた次のチャンスに行きたいと思います!!

I really had a great time in New York!! The day before leaving New York, I met my friends!! They came to my university in Japan in June last year for a seminar. Then, we became really close, and this reunion happened!! It was one of my biggest aim to go to NY, so I was really happy!! :)

ニューヨークでは本当に最高の時間を過ごすことができました。ニューヨークを出る前日には友人にも会うことができました!! 彼女たちは昨年の６月にセミナーのために広島女学院大学に来ました。そのときにとても仲良くなり、今回また再会することができました!! NYに行った大きな目的の一つだったので会うことができとても嬉しかったです!! :)

This trip was started with my mother, and I could spend time with my friends!! I want to say special thanks to Josica♡ Thank you so so much for accepting me and for everything!! I will definitely visit you again, and I am waiting for you to visit Japan again!!

今回の旅行は母との２人旅から始まり、友だちとも会い一緒に時間を過ごすことができた素敵なものになりました。お世話になったジョシアには本当に感謝です♡彼女も６月に出会った友人の一人で、泊めてもらったりと本当にお世話になりました!!

I spent time at Times Square in NY on New Year's Eve and countdown.

あけましておめでとうございます!!

今年はニューヨークのタイムズスクエアで年越しをしました。

There were so many people from all over the world!! Actually, I could not go in the Times Square since there were too many people!! But I could enjoy the atmosphere so much!!

世界中から本当にたくさんの人が集まっていました!!Times Squareで年越しをしたと言っても実は人が本当に多すぎてその周辺でカウントダウンをしました。でも雰囲気をとても楽しむことができ、最高の年明けとなりました!!

This year started in America and I will stay here for study abroad half of 2014. I could meet so many people from many countries which I have never been to last year. I hope this year will be as great as last year or better than it :) I will keep my hard working for it!!

今年はアメリカでのスタートとなり、2014年の半分は留学生活です。昨年はまだ自分自身が行ったこともない国に住む友人にたくさん会うことができました。今年が来年のように素晴らしい、もしくはそれ以上の一年になるようさらに頑張ります!!
