Spring is just there!

Hi! :)

Georgia is one of the southern states, so of course it gets warm earlier than most of the other states. 

Sometimes it gets really cold still now, but we can stay with just t-shirt recently. 

私がいるジョージア州は南部の州なので、多くの他の州よりも暖かくなるのが早いです。未だにとても寒い日もありますが、最近では半袖で過ごせる日も増えました。

キャンパス内の花もたくさん咲き始めています！

I am leaving for the horse show, and we will go to South Carolina. This will be the last show with going to another college for me. So, I will enjoy it as much as I can!! :)

今から馬術部の試合でサウスカロライナに行ってきます。これが私にとって遠征を含めた最後の試合になります。しっかり楽しんで、頑張ってきます！

Rode on Tres for the first time!

Hello, how are you??
I rode on Tres for the first time yesterday! He is really big.. and many the biggest horse in this college?
こんにちは。皆さんお元気ですか？？
昨日、トレイという馬に初めて乗りました！彼はとても大きい馬で、、多分この大学にいる馬の中で一番大きいかと思います。

Maybe, he is one of the biggest horses I have ever ridden on! 

私が今まで乗ったことのある馬の中で大きい馬ベスト３に確実に入る馬です！

       

He is little different from other horses, and I need to keep more contact with him through rein. It was similar to the horses that I have ridden on in Japan. 

この馬は他の馬とは少し違い、手綱でのコンタクトがより必要でした。日本で今まで乗ってきた馬と似たものがありました。

I started to learn horse riding since I was 11 years old. But I have never had my horse. Of course there are many benefits of having my own horse, however, I believe that I can enjoy equestrian because I have no experience of owning a horse. Since I rode on club's horses, I needed improve the skill to ride several types of horses in Japan, and this skill is really helpful now.

私は、１１歳の頃から乗馬を習っているのですが、自分の馬を持ったことは残念ながらありません。もちろん自馬を持つことでの利点は大きいですが、私は馬を持ったことがないおかげで今、こうしてアメリカという他の地で馬術を楽しめているのだと思っています。日本ではクラブの馬にいつも乗っていたので、様々なタイプの馬に乗るという技術が鍛えられてきました。そしてその乗り方が今とても役に立っているのです。

Equestrian Club Activity

Hello. I will introduce a activity in Equestrian Club today.
In February, we had some activity for fund raiser for the equestrian team and equestrian center.
こんにちは。今日は馬術チームを支えてくれている馬術クラブの活動について紹介したいと思います。２月は馬術クラブでの資金集めのための活動が２つありました。集まった資金は馬術チーム、馬術センターのために使われ、私たちチームの活躍には欠かせないものです。

One was in the Wesleyan Market in a weekend. This market is held once a month. Honestly, it was a first time to go to there. Many local people come to our campus, and some people sell some products such as vegetables handmade stuff.
ひとつはウェズリアンマーケットで行なわれました。このマーケットは月に一回大学の敷地内で開かれます。正直、今回初めて行ったのですがとても面白かったです。このマーケットには地元の方たちが集まり、手作りの商品や野菜などを売っています。このマーケットに野菜や蜂蜜を目的に来る方もいます。

 

This is our corner. We sold key chains which are from reins, painted horse shoes, cupcakes, and coffee and tea. 　

私たち馬術クラブは手綱から作ったキーホルダー、ペイントを施した馬蹄、カップケーキ、コーヒーと紅茶を売りました。

The other one was a Valentine's day fund raiser. We sold flowers :)
I also received one from my friend <3
もう一つはバレンタインデーに合わせた資金集めでした。私たちはお花を売りました :)
私も友だちからお花をもらい素敵なバレンタインデーを楽しめました♡

In Japan, girls give some chocolate to boys. However, American style is opposite, so boys give some presents to girls. Since this school is women's college, I saw just some presents between girls. However, some of my friends got presents from their boyfriend. This kind of cultural difference is also interesting!
日本では、一般的にバレンタインデーというと女性から男性へ贈り物をするというイメージですが、アメリカではその逆で、男性から女性へプレゼントを渡すのが一般的です。私の大学は女子校なので周りでは女子同士でのプレゼント交換しかありませんでしたが、友人の中には彼氏からプレゼントをもらっている子もいました。こういった習慣の違いも面白いですね！

Horse show at Clemson University!

Hello. The equestrian team had a two days show at the Clemson University in the weekend.

久々の更新になってしまいました。

馬術部は先週末も試合があり、クレムソン大学というところまで行ってきました。

We had both Hunt seat and Western shows, and it was the longest show I've ever seen! 

Hunt seat とWesterm 両方の試合が行なわれ、私たちの大学からも2チーム一緒に行きました。本当に長い試合でしたが、とても楽しめました！

On Saturday, I got a 6th place! And on Sunday, I got a 3rd place!!

土曜日には6位入賞、日曜日は3位に入賞することができました!!

Classes

Hi! I will introduce the classes which I am taking for this semester today.
こんにちは。今日は、今学期に私が履修している科目を紹介したいと思います。

1) Comparative Politics  比較政治学

This is my favorite class in this semester. In this class, we are studying about some domestic politics in several countries and comparing them. I took International Relations class in the last semester, but It is different from the class, which is the study of the relationship of politics between or among countries. Since I am interested in politics, I am enjoying to take this class.
このクラスは今学期に履修している授業の中でも特に好きなクラスです。この科目では、いくつかの国の国内政治について学び、それらを比較しています。前学期には国際政治学という授業を履修したですが、そこでは複数の国の間の関係、及び政治について学びました。これは国際政治とは異なり、各国内の政治についてなのでまた新たな角度からの政治を見ることができとても面白いです。


2) International Law  国際法

I was interested in International Law since entering my university in Japan, so I decided to take this class. International Law is unique, and of course there are many differences from the domestic laws. Although there are some International Organizations and powerful countries, there are not sovereignty in the international relations. I am learning about how the International Law is working in this society.

大学に入学してからずっと国際法について学びたいと思っていたので、この授業を見つけたときにすぐに履修することを決めました。国際法はとても独特で国内の法律とは異なる点がたくさんあります。国際機関や力を持った国などはいくつか存在しますが、統治権のある力は国際的には存在していません。このような国際状況において、国際法がどのような働きをしているのか学んでいます。

3) Fundamentals of College Writing  大学レベル英作文
There are so many chances to write papers in each classes for assignment. Then, my writing skill is really important. Honestly, it is difficult to make it perfect, but I am trying to make my English writing skill better with taking this class.
大学では各クラスの課題でエッセイを書くことがしばしば求められます。そのときに、英語で文章を書く力が求められます。正直、完璧なものにすることはなかなか難しいのですが、このクラスを通して、スキルアップを目指しています。

4) Contemporary Business  現代ビジネス

I haven't taken any business classes so far in my college life. But I am trying this subject in this semester. I have learned about Social Entrepreneurship in HJU, and we are studying about entrepreneurship in this class. So, I want to make my knowledge deeper.

今までの大学生活ので中でビジネスのクラスを履修したことがなかったのですが、今学期初めて挑戦しようと思い履修しました。広島女学院大学で社会起業家にについて学んだのですが、このクラスでも起業家について触れているので、知識を掘り下げていけたらいいなと考えています。

They are the classes, which I am taking now. I am going to introduce more about the classes later.
これらが私が今履修している授業です。今度、これらの授業についてもっと紹介できたら良いなと思います。

Setsubun ~Japanese Culture~

Today is "Setsubun," which is one of a Japanese cultural day. Even though I am not in Japan, I enjoyed the special dinner by myself :)
今日は節分ですね。日本ではないですが、一人で恵方巻きを作ってみました :)

In Japan, today is considered the day when the season changes to Spring. We eat special sushi, which is called "eho-maki" for good luck on this day. There are other customs for this day, but I just ate the sushi today.
日本では今日は節分という「季節を分ける」日で春への変わり目の日です。幸運を願って恵方巻きと呼ばれる巻き寿司を食べます。他にもこの日の習慣がありますが、今年は恵方巻きだけ食べました。

Since I am not staying at big city, I cannot go to anywhere without car. I feel how car is necessary to live in America. This is really different from living in Japan. I can go to supermarket by myself, but there are not many Japanese food ingredients. I baked egg instead of seaweed, and made maki-zushi.
私が留学している大学は大きな都市にある訳ではないので、基本的に車なしではどこにもいけません。アメリカでの車社会を本当に実感しています。日本では公共交通機関が本当に発展しているので違いの一つですね。近くにスーパーマーケットはあるのですが、そこには残念ながらそんなにたくさん日本食材が売っていません。海苔が手に入らないので代わりに薄焼き卵を作って酢飯を巻きました。卵焼きのように見えるかもしれませんが、巻き寿司です！

When we eat "eho-maki," we need to keep silence until finish eating. And every year, we need to eat it with facing a certain direction. This year's direction was the east-northeast.
恵方巻きを食べるときは一本食べ終えるまで、しゃべってはいけません。そして、毎年食べるときの方角が決まっています。今年は東北東だったので、ちゃんとそちらを向いて黙ーって食べました。

First Hunt Seat Show in 2014

I'm back! We had a hunt seat show in this weekend.
It was at the Georgia Southern University,  and it took about 2-3 hours by car to get there. It was a first hunt seat show in 2014 and a fourth time for me in America.
ただいま帰ってきました！乗馬の試合に行ってきました。ジョージアサウザン大学で行なわれ、車で２、３時間のドライブでした。私にとってアメリカで４回目の試合でした。

In America, there is a Association which calls IHSA. And it helps college students to do equestrian. For horse shows, we do not need to bring our horses, and we ride on the horses which the hosting school has or prepares for the show. It help us to save money to do this sport. I feel how equestrian is familiar in this country compare to Japan, and I love it so much!

アメリカにはIHSAと呼ばれる連盟が存在しており、学生の馬術を支援しています。試合のために私たちは各自の馬を会場に持っていく必要がなく、主催大学の馬、もしくはそこが用意した馬に乗って出場します。このシステムは学生が馬術をする上でのコストを下げ、私たち学生はとても助けられているのです。日本に比べてどれだけアメリカでは乗馬が浸透しているかをとても感じると同時に、とても素敵なシステムだと思っています。

I could not get any place this time, but I could have a great weekend. I will do more practice and do my best for the next show, which is two weeks later!!

残念ながら、今回は入賞することができなかったのですが、とても良い週末を過ごすことができました。２週間後に控えている次の試合に向けてまた練習を頑張ります！
